Eastern Massachusetts Real Estate Investors Association(EasternMassREIA) provides a relaxed, casual networking and educational venue for the new and seasoned investors alike. Our Association meets on the second Thursday of each month and we welcome all to participate in the exciting fast paced world of Real Estate Investing. National REIA In the News

On September 10th, we had a series of meetings in Washington. We met with with the Tax Counsels for Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY), Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and his Legislative Director, Jon Shiener. We also went to the Capitol for a meeting with Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), our champion and member of the W/M Committee, to discuss strategy for moving forward with our legislation. Additionally: we met Amy O’Donnell, Chief of Staff for Congressman John Larson (D-CT), who gave us a commitment that her Congressman will work closely with Mr. Pascrell in lobbying the members of the W/M Committee to seek passage of HR3440, John Sherry, Legislative Director for Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-PA), Adam Francis, Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Patrick Tiberi (R-OH), Ranking Member of the Tax Oversight Sub Committee of W/M and Melissa Mueller, Tax Counsel for Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA), Chairman of the Tax Oversight Committee for W/M. The staffers are going to speak to their bosses about going on as Co-Sponsors of HR3440.

We also received a big boost when several weeks back Rep Eric Cantor R- Va, agreed to be a co-sponsor of HR 3440. Congressional aides on the Democrat side, were very impressed by this as they told us that Mr. Cantor, as the "House Whip" generally shys away from sponsoring legislation and therefore it must be a very strong bill.

Every person we met with gave us a positive response. HR 3440 is currently in the House Ways and Means Committee. It was expressed to us that HR 3440 may fit in nicely with the $8,500 1st time Homebuyers credit which Congress is likely going to extend so we may get a chance at quick passage. For this to have a chance; however, we must get pro-active.

The one thing that was strongly driven home to us was we how vitally important it is for members of Congress to hear from their constituents back home expressing support for HR 3440. Please contact your congressman and urge others in your sphere of influence, associations, industry members, etc to do the same.

Phone calls, emails or faxes are the best ways to make contact (snail mail is the least desirable, takes too long for them to receive due to security protocol) and express support for HR3440.
